Before "Correcting" the Word of God
Scripture Verses
In this sermon we explore the moment when Peter tries to correct Jesus, and how that moment exposes a temptation still present in every Christian heart. Jesus declares that His suffering, death, and resurrection are not optional but divinely necessary, and Peter’s rebuke reveals how easily we set our minds on human logic instead of God’s saving plan.
This message walks through four essential truths:
- Christ’s cross was necessary for our salvation, and our “this must never happen” must never contradict God’s revealed will.
- The renewed mind thinks the things of God rather than the things of men, resisting the urge to reshape Scripture to fit our preferences.
- The crosses we bear are not self‑imposed burdens but the real hardships that come because we belong to Christ and confess His grace in a world that resists it.
- God’s Word never needs correction. Though attacked more than any ancient document, it has been vindicated again and again, proving faithful, reliable, and inspired.
Through Peter’s mistake, Christ teaches us to trust His Word fully, follow His cross faithfully, and rest in the comfort that He has done all the work to save us. May this message strengthen you to deny yourself, take up your cross, and follow Him with confidence in His unfailing promises.
